13 LONG YEARS it was! And finally, the wait is over for the fans of Alan Wake 2. The game was released on 27th Oct 2023, and is available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S. But why is this thriller sequel being scrutinized through so many aspects, be it regarding the long-due release of its sequel or its hyped-up story, or even its ultra graphics? Even more, experts and gaming freaks are considering this as one of the most stunning examples of what the future of gaming would look like.
But why there is so much hype about this game or let me call it a “Brand”? Mainly there are two aspects,

The game is a survival thriller game developed by Remedy Entertainments. It puts the player into the story of a horror novelist ‘Alan Wake.’ Alan is a renowned writer with best-selling horror novels but has been facing writer’s block for the past 2 years!
The game will take you directly into a dream where Darkness rules people! Wherein, light weakens darkness and then you can kill the enemy. Alan Wake wakes up from this dream in 2010, while on a trip to Brighton Falls with his wife ‘Alice‘. Upon arrival he goes to Carl Stucky, a landlord, to retrieve the keys of their cabin. But he encounters a mysterious old lady who tells him that Stucky has fallen ill and that she was trusted to pass the keys to Alan. The old lady directs the couple towards the cabin on an island in the middle of Cauldron Lake.
There Alan finds out the real purpose of the visit, as Alice explains to him i.e., to help him break from writer’s block. Alan storms out angrily as he wants some time alone – away from all that regular life. But to his surprise, he hears out cries of his wife shouting for help! There he finds out his wife is being dragged into the Lake. But as he dives into the lake, he enters an unknown mystical blackout!

Alan woke up after 1 week in the middle of nowhere, taken by surprise at what had happened to him except for one thing in his mind, his wife was missing. Alan encounters the same darkness-ridden people but now in real life! Later Alan finds out his own manuscript, named ‘Departure’, which is a big surprise as he has been facing writers block. Alan tries to seek help from the Police but discovers that the events that occurred do not match reality.
As players progress through the game they start to connect the missing dots including the mysterious Old Lady – The Darkness and her ability to connect to the imagination of the writers in order to set herself free from the Lake. Also about the power of Cauldron Lake! Apparently, Cauldron Lake is a special place where whatever writers write becomes reality.
Players get hints in the game thru which they can help Alan to defeat Old Lady. Along with the hints, A Light – with voice is there to guide Alan. Now, in order to save the spoiler, I will leave the sequence of further thrilling events in the game which will keep you on the edge of your chair throughout the game. So jumping to the conclusion, Alan somehow manages to save ‘Alice’ but at the cost of his own life!
Here comes The Lost Sequel – ‘Alan Wake 2’
13 years have passed now but Alan is still trapped in the eternal looking darkness with unthinkable ordeal. And with no one knowing about the disappearance of Alan! Finally, FBI agent Saga Anderson(a playable character in the game), arrives in the town to solve a similar kind of case. As she investigates, she comes across a horror story narrative written by Alan. To her surprise events written in the manuscript matches with real-life events. This is where some great and mind-boggling events unfold in the game, which is why I will limit myself here and save you from all the spoilers! Get yourself into the game and contact Alan to help him escape from this circular trap of darkness. But an advice to remember, “It’s not a circle, it is a Spiral.”
Analysis of Surprising Graphics Needs
Alan Wake 2 took really a long time after its prequel but has come as a Black Goliath! According to the survey of Steam and an employee(deleted tweet) of Remedy Entertainments, probably 23-25% of PC gamers won’t be able to play Alan Wake 2 on their PC. Developers mentioned that graphic cards with mesh shaders are officially supported which leaves Nvidea 10 or AMD RX 5000 GPU or below in a question mark.
